Accepting Applicants for the National ADAPT Youth Summit

The ADAPT Community is preparing for its third Youth Summit, an intensive four day leadership training. Rahnee Patrick, ADAPT Youth Summit Coordinator explains, "2008 is the 25th Anniversary of ADAPT, and while we celebrate the past we are working to build for the future."

The ADAPT Youth Summit training's primary focus is to bolster young leadership and organizers in existing groups. ADAPT's leadership is made up from the leadership of local active groups who use ADAPT style Action Organizing to forward our local and national agenda. "It's a great opportunity to strengthen your local group, it sure made a difference for our group," said Barbara Toomer from Salt Lake.

While the primary objective is to provide leadership training for existing groups, we have seen a big impact in areas where there isn't an active group or an old group has not been active, said Patrick. "If you are a youth with a disability or know of one, you better apply to one of the best direct action trainings for youth in the country."

The individuals that come through the training leave with practical organizing tools and strategies. Participants go through hands on training in understanding power dynamics, building a group, how to organize and plan an action and more.

This year the training will be in Chicago June 20th through the 24th.

ADAPT is seeking applicants NOW. To receive your application or for more information contact Rahnee Patrick at 312/640-2100 or by email: rahneek@hotmail.com. Application and brochures can be found at http://www.jozsoft.com/adaptyouth/. Applications are due by March 16, 2008.
